Elizabeth Maddox Hancock was born Jan 3, 1773, Goochland Co, VA, the daughter of Capt. John D. Hancock and Elizabeth Maddox.
She married Rev. William James Mayo, Apr 11, 1790, St. James Northam Parish, Goochland Co, VA.
She and her husband moved to Floyd Co, Ky probably about 1804, perhaps taking her widowed mother with them, and probably lived near her sister, Susannah Hancock, who married David Spurlock Sr. in 1804 and moved there.
Elizabeth and her husband were still in Floyd Co, Ky. in 1808.
They eventually moved to Paris, Edgar Co in 1825 (record noted in Floyd County, KY court records where Rev William James Mayo served as first clerk of the court), following their son Jonathan Mayo who was one of three first white settlers in Edgard County, IL in 1817-1818 (by 1830) IL. The family first located to Edgar County and later moved to a home within the town of Paris, IL where she died in 1840. Her husband died there in 1849 and both are buried in the Mayo Family Plot in the Paris, Edgar County Cemetery.
