Biography

Mary was born while traveling with Daniel Boone's party from Virginia to Kentucky. She was given the name Mary Forest Hancock, not as a surname but because she was born in the forest. She married John Jackson in Madison County, Jan. 17, 1787.

"I bequeath to my well beloved wife Ann Hancock my house and cattle, horses and hoggs and all and everything that is mine both within doors and without to be order'd and manage'd as she pleases for duration of her natural life. At her decease I order that my lands and whatever part or parcels of my goods and utensils are left be equally and exactly divided amongst my dear children Nathanial, Benjamin, Henry, Joseph, Mary, John, and William with the provisions that if any of my children die before my wife that the part for them allotted be at my wife's disposal to give some to any of my other children as she pleases..." (transcribed by Laura Harlow from scanned image of original will)

Hancock-191 and Hancock-2340 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date/location. Same death date/location. Same husband. Same parents. Please merge. Thank you.
I posted her gravestone showing date of 1769-10-29 as correct birth date. Someone questioned this, but I am sticking with 1769.

I'm not convinced that this Mary Hancock is the same Mary, daughter of Hector and Ann Hancock.

First, there is no indication that Hector's daughter Mary used a middle name, and her birthdate should have been around 1744. Hector lived his entire life in Carteret North Carolina so a birthplace of Virginia for his daughter is also fairly impossible. Her listed birthdate of 1769 is 18 years AFTER her father's death. Please let me know what your thoughts about this are.
