Biography

Hector Hancock was born in 1712. Multiple ancestry profiles have his date of births as Aug 2 1712 in Craven, North Carolina, American Colonies, but this date is approximate and has thus far not been confirmed.

His wife's name is Ann. Multiple ancestry records list it her last name at birth as Craven, but documentation proving that is hard to come by (but would be welcome if you have it!)

Hector wrote his will on Oct 27 1751, and was living as of that date. It was proven in the December 1751 court (thus death was sometime between October 27th and the end of December in 1751) and probate was completed in May 1752.

In his will he leaves everything to his wife for the remains of her natural life and then to be shared equally between all of his children (which he named)

"I bequeath to my well beloved wife Ann Hancock my house and cattle, horses and hoggs and all and everything that is mine both within doors and without to be order'd and manage'd as she pleases for duration of her natural life. At her decease I order that my lands and whatever part or parcels of my goods and utensils are left be equally and exactly divided amongst my dear children Nathanial, Benjamin, Henry, Joseph, Mary, John, and William with the provisions that if any of my children die before my wife that the part for them allotted be at my wife's disposal to give some to any of my other children as she pleases..." (transcribed by Laura Harlow from scanned image of original will)
