Biography

William Hancock III was born about 1640 in Surry Co, VA. He was the son of William Hancock Jr and Elizabeth Spencer.

William may have been killed in Bacon's Rebellion in the late 1670, which would have made him nearly 30 when he died. He may have married and had a son, John.

The scribed source on William Hancock Husband of Elizabeth Cockroft, Eliza Hanockc and Elinor Durante seems confused as to the dates of the children's births and which was the mother. I am not sure that this is reliable. Elizabeth Spencer M1. 1693, she died 1702, M2. 1707, M3 1712. His marriage date to Elizabeth Spencer of 1693 seems 20 years later than it should be with children being born from 1675.

source was on freepages at rootsweb which is apparently never coming back so i only have my memory of the page to rely on. as william jr. would have been about 60 when john was born. i believe that william iii is john's father and not his brother.

unable to prove this at this time.

in theory william should be the son of william and father of john, but no proof has been found yet..looking for documentation.

I am thinking that John Hancock-1403 is William's Hancock-2550 son instead of his brother. The dates are far off
