Biography

James Hancock/Handcock, was a son of John Hancock of Corsham, Wiltshire.^[1] His year of birth is unknown.

In the will of his father John Handcock of Lyppiatts, Corsham, Yeoman, the will made on 12 Aug 1692, the Testator made a bequest to his son James Handcock.^[1]

He married Sarah, surname unknown.^[2]

Mr James Handcocke of Lippeatt died 06 Sep 1715 and was buried on 09 Sep 1715 at Corsham, Wiltshire.^[3]

Summary of the Will of James Handcock 1715

In his will dated 10 Aug 1715 and proved 12 Sep 1715 he was recorded as "James Handcock of Lipyeats in the parish of Corsham in ye County of Wilts Gent".^[2] He made bequests to:

• his brother Edward Handcock one Guinea
• his brother William Handcock one Guinea
• his sister Lucy Bolwell one Guinea
• his nephew John Handcock son of his brother Edward Handcock, various items including his Rick stavels
• his good friend Mr Cross Vicar of Corsham one Guinea
• the poor of Corsham
• his servants (not named)

The rest and residue of his good he bequeathed to his wife Sarah Handcock whom he made sole Executrix.

An Inventory was taken on 12 Sep 1715 appraised by William Mountjoy and Thomas Keats. The goods etc were valued at £448 13s 2d.
