Biography

James Hancock was born in 1845 in Chacombe, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of John Hancock and Phebe Heritage. [1][2][3]

In 1861, John Hancock (39, head, married, Ag lab, born in Chacombe, Northamptonshire) and his wife, Phoebe Hancock (42, a wool spinner, born in Coton, Oxfordshire) had four Hancock children living with them in Chacombe, Northamptonshire: James (15, ag lab), Jane M (10, scholar), Ann (8, scholar) and John (2). All of the children were born in Chacombe. [4]

James Hancock was married to Ann Wilkins in 1868 Q4 in Banbury District. [5]

They had a daughter, Amelia Hancock, whose birth was registered in 1869 Q2 in Banbury District, who was buried on 13 Dec 1869. [6][7]

They had a daughter, Amy Hancock, whose birth was registered in 1871 Q1 in Banbury District. [8] Amy's death was registered in 1871 Q4 in Banbury. [9]

On the 1871 Census, James Hancock (25, head, married, ag.lab., born in Chacombe, Northamptonshire), his wife, Ann Hancock (21, born in Chacombe) and one child, Amy Hancock (1 month, born in Chacombe) were living in a cottage in Chacombe, Northamptonshire. [10]

They had a daughter, Ruth Hancock, whose birth was registered in 1874 J Quarter in Banbury District. [11]

They had a son, James Hancock, whose birth was registered in 1876 M Quarter in Banbury District. [12]

They had a daughter, Phoebe Ann Hancock, whose birth registered in the December quarter of 1877 in Banbury District. [13]

They had a daughter, Eliza Hancock, whose birth was registered in 1879 J Quarter in Banbury District. [14]

In 1881, James Hancock (35, head, married, a farm labourer born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire) and his wife, Ann Hancock (32, married, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire) had the following Hancock children: Amelia (8), Ruth (6), James (5), Phebe (3) and Eliza (1) living with them in Chacombe, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom. All of the children were born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire. [15]

James's wife, Ann Wilkins died age 32 and was buried in Chacombe on 19th May 1882. [16][17]

Hannah Heritage (a widow) was married to James Hancock (a widower) in 1887 in Banbury District, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom. [18]

In 1891, James Hancock (45) and his wife, Hannah Hancock (46, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire) were living in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire, England with the following children: James Hancock (15), Phoebe Hancock (13), Eliza Hancock (11), Richard Hancock (9), Annie M Heritage (14), Alice L Heritage (12), Ellen S Heritage (9) and Charles F Heritage (7). His son-in-law, Harry Snelson (23, married, a navvy, born in Abthorpe, Northamptonshire), daughter, Amy A Snelson (28, married, born in Chacombe, Northamptonshire), daughter, Phoebe A Hancock (23, single, a general servant, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), granddaughter, Ivy Snelson (0, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), and step-son, Charles Heritage (15, a general labourer born in Chalcombe Northamptonshire) were living with him. In 1911, James Hancock (65, head, widower, a farm labourer, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), his son-in-law, Harry Snelson (33, married, a railway platelayer, born in Abthorpe, Northamptonshire), his daughter, Amelia Amy Snelson (38, married, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire) and his grandchildren, Ivy Elizabeth Snelson (10, at school, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), Ida Francis Snelson (6, at school, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), James Thomas Snelson (3, at school, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), Florence Abigal Snelson (2, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire) and Ruth Gwendeline Snelson (1, born in Chalcombe, Northamptonshire), were living in Chacombe, Banbury District. Harry and Amelia had been married 11 years and had had 6 children, five still living, one having died. [23]
