Biography

Vancouver Hanks (known as "Van") was born January 7, 1814 in Powell County, Kentucky to Jonathan Hanks and Barbara (Yoakum).^{[1] [citation needed]} His name may have been given him by his father in honor of Charles Vancouver, an Englishman with whom he had become friends during his travels with Daniel Boone.^[2]

Van married Harriet Hall on February 5, 1841.^{[1][citation needed]}
