Biography

Azelie Hanks lived in Louisiana.

Azelia Hanks was born on January 1, 1852, and her birth was registered at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, St. Landry, Louisiana; she was the second daughter of Ralph Hanks and Marie Arthemise Abshire.^[1] She was most likely born in Vermilion Parish, though, as that's where her family was counted on the census in 1850 and in 1860.^[2][3]

In the 1870's her family moved to Lafayette (or perhaps the parish boundaries changed), ^[4] where they were neighbors with Maxile and Azelie Cormier and their children. ^[5] Several Hanks brothers and sisters married Cormier brothers and sisters. Azelie married Occuli Cormier around 1878. They settled in Lafayette, close to many family members, and had three children there. ^[6]

Azelie was widowed by 1900.^[7]

On June 2, 1920, at the age of 68, Azelia Hanks Cormier died in her home in Lafayette, Louisiana.^[8]
