Charles Hanks, fils was born July 3, 1805 to Charles Hanks and Christine Hargrave, in the Orleans Territory (Louisiana) of the United States. Two versions of the record of his birth and baptism were filed at St. Martin de Tours Church in St. Martinville (Father Barriere is known to have rewritten many of his old records), and transcribed by Father Donald Hebert:
