Biography

Richmond County VA Court June 1st 1709

  1. Ordered that Luke Hanks do officiate as constable for the ensueing yeare in the roome and stead of John Hill in the precincts betweene Totuskey and Farnham Creeks, and that said Luke Hanks repaire to the nearest Magistrate to be sworne accordingly

In June of 1717 it was

"Ordered that the Sheriff summon to the next court Luke Hanks, John Hanks & (thirteen others) to answer presentment of the Grand jury ... for not going to church one month past last." [citation needed]

Luke came to court and gave security or bond to attend church and was [released] upon his enforced good behavior.[citation needed] (Richmond County, Virginia Order Book 7 (1716-1717)

November 20th 1756 Henry Tapscott came into court and made oath that Luke Hanks departed this life without making any will as far as he knows and on his motion and giving security for administration a certificate is granted for letters of adm, ordered that Richard Miskell,John Rogers,Richard Rogers and John Muse or any three of them appraise the estate of Luke Hanks.

  1. July 5th 1727 judgment is granted to churchwardens of NFP agst. Sarah Hanks for having a bastard child and Luke Hanks of NFP obliged himself that the child lately born of Sarah Hanks shall not become a charge to the sd. parish.
