Biography

While it has not been proven beyond doubt that Peter is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth, DNA evidence overwhelmingly supports the fact that he is at least a relative of Thomas -- whether son, grandson nephew or cousin is a matter for traditional genealogical research.

Birth:

  • abt 1683 in Rappahannock River, Virginia[1]
  • 1670, VA[2] Note, Virginia listed. This, if true, would support his supposed parents.
  • 1673, Anne Arundel, Maryland[3]
  • 1682[4]
  • 1682, Ann Arundal Co., Maryland[5]

Father:

  • Thomas Hanks[6]
  • Thomas Hanks (b. before 1630; d. 1674 perhaps) was born in Wiltshire County, England.[7]
  • Robert Hanks[8] This bears investigation

Mother:

  • Elizabeth (maiden name unknown)[9] If he is the son of Thomas, this isn't really up for debate here. Thomas' profile concludes his wife was Elizabeth Lee.

Marriage

  • "There is a record of the marriage of Peter Hanks and Mary Beez in [a record at] St. Ann's Parish of Anne Arundle Co., Md."[10] Several sources concur.[11][12][13]

Children

  • "[In the record at St. Anne's Parish], children of this marriage are listed as Lydia, William, Elinor, and Peter. This record also includes their dates of birth."[14]
  • Lydia (b. 1704), William (b. 1707), Elinor (b. 1709) and Peter (b. 1711)[15]
  • Lydia Hanks (b. 25 Sep 1704, Anne Arundel, MD), William "The Quaker" Hanks (b. 25 Jul 1707, St. Anne's Parish, Annapolis), Eleanor Hanks (b. 10 Jul 1709, St. Anne's Parish, Annapolis), Peter Hanks, II (b. 1711, d. 1733) (no citation)

Death

  • "Peter drew his will on April 1, 1733, died April 10, 1733. His will was probated on July 24, 1733 at Annapolis, MD. The inventory listed 11 head of cattle,2 mares, 4 sheep, household and kitchen utensils and other ordinary items. Deborah Brown"[16] Two other sources concur.[17][18]

There may be some issues with this profile and the mother. They were born in the same year.
