Biography

Leo was the oldest son and first child of Henry and Marie Hansen born in the family home north of Wayne.

The World War II Draft Card says he is 22 years old. The date for the card was October 16, 1940. He is employed by August Kruse. Leo is 6'3" and weighs 175 pounds. His complexion is light with blue eyes and brown hair. The 1940 census listed him as living with August Kruse as a hired hand.

After his father was bedridden from a stroke, he took over the farming and was like a father to his youngest brother, Herbert. He married Esther who was a widow with a young daughter. Leo and Esther lived in four different homes in Wayne during their marriage. The first home was near Bressler Park on the west side. They had a home built in the Carhart Subdivision around the late 1960's. Then they moved to a home in the south west part of Wayne, and the last home was a town home in the northeast corner of Wayne. He had a farm south of Wayne that he farmed until he retired. Then it was rented to bring in income. He was also part of the Wayne City Council in the late 1970's into the 1980's. Leo was diagnosed with Alzheimers and went to live in the Pierce Manor in Pierce, Nebraska. He died from pnumonia. Leo is buried in the Greenwood cemetery in Wayne, Nebraska.[1]
