Biography

Laurence was born to Henry and Marie Hansen north of Wayne. He attended School District #48 a mile and a half from his home. He was a member of the Wooly Wilbur a 4H Sheep Club.

Laurence and Frances Pippett were married at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Wayne at 3:00 in the afternoon. A reception was held that evening at Frances' parents home.

Laurence was in the Army during the Korean war. He went to be inducted in the army in March of 1945. He returned from the Phillipines shortly before his father died in 1947.

Laurence and his family farmed North of Wayne, but eventually moved to a farm South of Wayne. The family had horses at the farm north of Wayne. Laurence had the first biological grandchild born to Henry and Marie. He died of a massive heart attack shortly after waking up and telling his wife he was going to rest for a moment. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne Nebraska in the Military section.

Laurence Hansen, 63, of Wayne, died Saturday, April 27, 1985 at his home. Services were held Tuesday, April 30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wayne. The Rev. Ted Youngerman officiated.

Laurence Johannes Hansen, the son of Henry and Marie Engelbart Hansen, was born February 14, 1922 on a farm near Wayne. He was baptized May 27, 1922 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pender and confirmed April 21, 1935 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wayne. He married Frances Pippett on January 21, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wayne. He was inducted in the U.S. Army on March 14, 1945 and discharged on October 31, 1946. The couple farmed in the Wayne area since 1946. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the church council; American Legion; N.F.O.; Mid-West Breeders Association; and served on the Rural School Board for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; two daughters; Mrs. Ronald(Verna Mae) Rhode of Carroll and Mrs. Alan (Nancy) Niemann of Wayne; one son, Larry and Cathy Hansen of Wayne; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Leo Hansen of Wayne; Lester Hansen of Wayne; and Herbert Hansen of Wayne; one sister, Mrs. Harold (Leona) Magnuson of Wayne; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers Stanley Morris, Cyril Hansen, Gene Helgren, Elmer Engelbart, Lawrence Sprouls, and Michael Sievers.

Burial was in the Veterans Cemetery in Wayne with the American Legion Post 43 and VFW Post 5291. Schumacher Funeral Home of Wayne is in charge of arrangements.
