In 1900, the Hansen family lived in Central Precinct, Sevier, Utah. The household included Caroline Hansen, 47, born in May 1853, born in Denmark (as were her parents), who immigrated in 1869, a seamstress, and a widow, who had had ten children, eight of whom were living, who owned their farm without a mortgage; her five children, all born in Utah, all in school except the oldest one: Clara, 18, born Sept 1882; John G., 15, b. March 1885; Charles A., 12, b. Feb 1888; Willard J., 10, b. Dec 1890; and Eva, 7, b. Feb 1893. All members of the household could read and write except for the youngest child.^[2]

In 1910, the Hansen family lived in Richfield, Sevier, Utah. The household included Caroline M. Hansen, 57, a widow, born in Denmark (as were her parents). She immigrated in 1869, and had had ten children, eight of whom were living. Caroline had her own income, and owned their house without a mortgage; her four children, all born in Utah, and whose father was born in Denmark: John G., 25, a mill carpenter, 20 weeks unemployed in 1909; Charles A., 22, a fireman at a planing mill; Willard J., 19, a wagon driver at a planing mill; and Eva G., 17, bookkeeper at the planing mill, who had been unemployed 36 weeks in 1909.^[3]
