Helmer married Elizabeth Thompson April 24, 1917, in New Richland, Minesota. [1]
In 1917, Helmer's WWI Draft Registration Card says that Helmer was employed as clerk in clothing store and also at a theater in Waseca. [2]
By 1920, the US Census shows Helmer's occupation as retail merchant selling groceries and jewelry. Their first child, Hewitt Merril Hanson, was 9 1/2 months old at the time of the census. [3]
