Records indicate that many of the Hanson family attended St David´s Episcopal Church in Manayunk, Philadelphia on Dupont St. All David and Martha's children were baptized there and Martha was buried through the same church[3]. Not all the records from the church can be found.
A family rumor or story has it that David was disowned by his father as Martha was Jewish. No records have been found to substantiate this. In fact Davids father helped David buy a farm about 1911.
After Davids death Martha moved back to the Manayunk area, most likely to be closer to her family. She had all the children baptized at St Davids. Her sister Ellen is shown as sponsor for John and the younger children along with her eldest daughter Ellen. They were all baptized on the same day, February 15, 1920 [4]. It is unknown if they were baptized previously. Martha worked in a factory and with the help of her older children kept the family together.
There has also been speculation as to whether Martha and John Paulie actually were married. No records to date show the actual marriage. however both the church and the state recognized them as husband and wife.
Martha's Hand written will is shown on the right side of the screen as well as the court documented probate copy. Note these were found in the papers of her son John and are now in the possession of her great granddaughter Jacqueline.
The death certificate is hard to read it says a rupture of the large intestine following childbirth, note young John Paulie was born the week prior[5]. She is interred in the Leverington Cemetery, Roxborough, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA[6].
