William was executor of his father's will signed 23 December 1616. He was presumably the eldest son, as he shared a third of the whole property with his mother, whereas his six siblings had a third between them: " I, John Hardestie of Norwood, the elder, to be buried at Fuiston. I will that my goodes be devided into three partes, one I give to Dorothie my wiffe; the second to my children, Samuell, Jane, Elizabeth, Josua, Marie and John, equallie amongst them; the third, my debtes &c. beinge first discharged, I give to my said wiffe and William, my sonne, equally betwixt them, whom I make my executors. Wittnesses, Nich. Smithson, Will. Day, Fras. Hardestie. Dorothy Hardestie, relict, admitted as executrix.[1]
Birth date - The Fewston registers do not survive before 1593. A birth date of 1528 has been given for William's father John, but no supporting evidence found yet, so William's birth may be later than 1550. Dorothy would have been in her mid 80's in 1616, which seems old for an executor. No source found yet for William's marriage or children.
