Biography
Sarah (Hardin) Rutherford has Scottish Ancestors.
Sarah was born about 1842. She was the daughter of John Hardin and Jane Wilson.
Her mother passed away before 1846. Her father remarried that year to Judith Archer.
In 1850, she was not in her father's household. She may have been the Catherine Hardin who was living in the household of James Hardin in Clay and Richland, Illinois. James may have been her uncle.[1] Another member of the household, James Wilson's brother Samuel Wilson, eventually married Sarah Catherine's half-sister Mahala Hardin.
She married Joseph J. Rutherford on 15 Jun 1859 in Washington county, Indiana.[2] He was the widower of her half-sister Zionia Mildaraine (Hardin) Rutherford. Sarah and Joseph had several children.
In 1860, she was living with her husband and step-children in Washington county, Indiana.[3] In 1870, they were still in Madison township. The household included her children with Joseph.[4]
She passed away in 1871 and was buried in Posey township cemetery in Fredericksburg, Washington, Indiana. [5]
