Military Service of Mark Hardin, son of Major John Hardin, who was with his father at Fort Pitt.
Letter of War Department, Adjutant General's Office Washington, D.C. dated July 14, 1936: "In an abstract of hides issued at Fort Pitt by Joseph Shelton, from June 7, 1777 to February 24, 1778, it shows that in October 1777 ten hides were delivered to Mark Hardin". (signed) E. T. Conley, Major General, the Adjutant General.

Listed with Capt. Zachquil Morgan: John Hardin, Mark Hardin, Benjamin Hardin
Apparently the above service was used to prove he was in the Revolution for DAR - however that service is no longer acceptable since the Revolution had not yet started. (NOTE: The 1776 Project includes the pre-war years from Dec 1773, so we can display the 1776 Sticker for Mark Hardin per the above cited source.)
Mark Hardin received a Virginia Preemption Warrant, No. 1623, dated 24 Apr 1781. The warrant was for 400 acres in Monongalia but described a location on the Little Kanhaway adjacent land claimed by Robert Thornton, to include Mark's settlement [improvement] of 1772. The Little Kenawha today is within the bounds of West Virgina. There is a Warrant to his brother Benjamin in the same location and also mentions a settlement of 1772. John Hardin, possibly their older brother, also patented 359 acres on the Little Kenawha.
Mark was granted a patent on the above Preemption which had been surveyed 15 Nov 1783. He received a total of 909 acres, still described as Monongalia Co, the lower side of Little Kenhawa River, about six miles above the mouth, at the mouth of Grave Crk. Patent Book R, p.463.
The Little Kanawha River runs into the Ohio at Parkersburg, WV. This placed some of the Hardins in a handy place to explore Kentucky.
Mark was deeded land in Hampshire Co VA in 1773 from his father. This was 126 acres, part of 306 acres granted 1766 by Fairfax to Benjamin Rutherford and sold by Rutherford to John Hardin Sr in 1768.
The patent to Rutherford was dated 22 Oct 1766 and was for 306 acres, Lot #18 on Patterson Crk in Hampshire Co VA, on the Creek side of Lot #17 [Mark's father will leave a grandson 100 acres, part of Lot 17 on Patterson Crk]. It was issued to Benjamin Rutherford, Robert Worthington, Jane McCracken and Margaret McCracken.
Ann's father John Hartley lived on Patterson Creek in Hampshire Co. John Hartley named his daughter Ann Hardin in his will of 1783.

MARK HARDIN, (wife Ann) to Jacob Brookhart...126 a. on Patterson Creek.
They followed their children to what is now Washington Co KY.
The proof given in DAR papers for his service is somewhat doubtful and probably would not be accepted today, although it is likely he served along with his brother.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mark by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mark:
