According to The Hardings in America, Thomas Harding had the children Amasa, Stephen, Benjamin, Perry, Jesse, Hurlbut, and several daughters. [1] Hurlburt/Hurlbut was married to Julia Aumick (misspelled Aunnick) as indicated in the death record of their son, Sidney. [2]

Hurlburt's probable birth date is in the year 1800. In the 1840 census, he is listed as being 30 to 40 yoa and his wife being 20 to 30 yoa; he could be anywhere from one year older to as much as 20 years older than his wife. In subsequent censuses, his and Julia's ages vary widely. Best case to be argued until further evidence is found is that he was probably born around the year 1800 and there is evidence in Luzerne County tax records that she was born around 1817. Septon appears to be the first-born child in 1841. Given that there is no child in the 1840 census, this appears accurate and lends credence to the marriage of Hurlburt and his wife occurring about 1840.
The Aumicks, presumably Julia's brothers, were all in the same age category as Hurlburt - 30 to 40 yoa. John Aumick, presumably Julia's father, was living with the family in 1850 at the age of 74. Thomas Harding was the oldest Harding on the 1840 census page at 50 to 60 years of age; but this Thomas Harding could not have been born in 1751, as the father listed as Hurlburt's father was. [7] This Hurlburt could still be the son of Thomas Harding who was born in 1751 and died in 1813 and Hannah Stark Harding who died somewhere around 1800.
