A brief examination of what is known about Jasper's life in Middleton, Bucks county. Family records passed down said Jasper was married to a Mary Stephenson. There were 2 known children of this marriage,George who came to Nova Scotia with his father and a daughter believe to be called Mary. She choose to remain with her deceased Mother's family in Philadelphia.
Jasper was a tailor by trade & i have enclosed a bill from the Edward B. Barnsley collection of the "Buck county Historical society" illustrates the prices he charged. His signature is at the bottom of the bill.
Due to the brother loyalty to Britain each of the brothers were forced to abandon his property & seek refuse in New York. On Feb. 3 1780, in order to quit the state of Pennsylvania ,Mary, wife of George was granted "passes to New York for herself & her 2 children, with bed & clothing. To obtain these passes Mary had to give security of 1000 pounds & promise not to return without special permission of this board. In New York ,Jasper,Richard,Robert & at the last minute George joined the Port Roseway associates. Like many immigrants two years of waiting elapsed in New York. Finally they set sail on the 26th of April 1783 & arrived at Port Roseway on May 4th 1783. Surveyor Benjamin Maston described the arrival.
Sunday May 4th -Ashore in the morning. About 4 O'clock p.m. some of the fleet from New York are in sight. Weather fair, wind north westerly, fresh. Monday May 5th -- Last night fleet got in below, upwards of 30 sail in all, in which there are three thousand souls.
