Dorothy is mentioned in her father's will 1626: "The rest of my billes, boundes &c., I give equallye unto Dorothie, Margret and Jane Hardestye, my daughters."[5]
She is also mentioned in the will of her husband Arthur, of which she was executrix.[6] Her brother William is mentioned as "my brother in law William Hardestie".
Research Notes
Two baptisms are given, both sourced. The 1609 baptism at Otley is the daughter of John Hardestie of Farnley, so may be different from John Hardesty who lived at Norwood near Fewston. Also this date is too close to her brother John. The 1606 baptism is of Fewston, but note there is a marriage of a Dorothy Hardesty at Fewston 28 August 1630 with a different husband, Richard Hardesty.[7] There may be more than one Dorothy, but Richard Hardestie died the year after his marriage and was buried at Fewston 12 April 1631, so it is possible that Dorothy was a widow when she married Arthur Hardesty.
No marriage in the Hampsthwaite register for 1630. The years 1631 - 1636 are missing so the marriage may have taken place then (which would fit with a remarriage after the death of Richard 1631). Link to register.[8]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Dorothy by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Dorothy:
Hardestie-2 and Hardisty-44 appear to represent the same person because: dates are close. same name. same spouse. both are 'of Fewston'. one has no data and no sources, but these are clearly the same person, please merge.
Is there source material proving that both Arthur AND Dorothy died in Sept of 1658? I am curious. Arthur wrote his will in August, and doesn't mention anything about his wife being ill...but instead mentions leaving her what is necessary to educate his children etc. Was there something happening in Sept of 1658 that would have caused them both to die the same month? Thomas was underage - is there evidence re: who took care of him?
