Biography

Daniel was born in 1701. Daniel is the child of Samuel Hardy and Rebecca Forbush. [1]

He married Vashti Rice in Westborough on 7 Dec 1727.[2][3]

Vashti was the daughter of Thomas Rice, the first settler of Westborough and owner of a large tract of land. Daniel was a soldier in the French and Indian War. [4]

They had at least one child:[4]

  1. Abigil, b at Westborough, Massachusetts 26 Jan 1735, m at Westborough, 21 May 1752, Daniel Adams of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

Research Notes

There exists no basis, at this time, for Daniel's date of death to be 1770. Someone on Familysearch used this date as well - perhaps as part of a Legacy file.

Per Robert L. Ward, The Hardy Brothers of Westborough, Massachusetts in MASSOG Vol. 43 (2018–2019), No. 1 p 30+ 'Excerpt' from H Claude Hardy in Hardy and Hardie, past and present [4]

"sons of John3 Hardy (John2, Thomas1) and Anne (Savory) Hardy, of Bradford, Massachusetts are Phineas, Daniel, Aaron 'and Jonathan'

Why the authors placed these men in that family is mysterious. No evidence for this identification is presented. No birth records for these alleged children can be found, nor any probate record or Westborough deed for their parents. In fact, one wonders whether the authors said John had moved to Westborough simply because his supposed sons married there.

The above records show that the parentage alleged by the Hardy book is erroneous, and that Daniel, Phineas, and Aaron Hardy of Westborough were brothers of Samuel3 Hardy and sons of Samuel2 and Rebecca (Forbush) Hardy.

If no other sources can be found for this parentage then the parents John Hardy (1674-1747) and Anne Savory (abt.1683-abt.1740) should be detached from Daniel, Phineas, and Aaron Hardy and simply noted here in Research Notes. Samuel Hardy (abt.1656-) would be the rightful father. Parents have been updated accordingly.

Hardy-3557 and Hardy-2492 appear to represent the same person because: Hardie Source info added to Hardy-3557 indicating these were intended to be the same person, initially having incorrect parents attached to Hardy-3557, but wife is same as linked wife in Hardy-2492
