Rose Mary Bock passed away at the age of 81 on February 3, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the first of seven children born to James and Lucille (Caughey) Hardy, on March 9, 1933 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Brainerd, MN.
She graduated from Washington High School, Brainerd, MN in 1951 and attended Brainerd Community College. Rose Mary married Vernon Bock on September 27, 1952; upon his return from serving in Korea. They lived in Nokay Lake Township and started to raise their family on the family farm. She was active with her children in the Nokay Lake Mariners 4-H club, serving as a leader for many years. Rose Mary kept busy with helping on the farm, gardening, and organizing the annual deer hunt. She helped her husband establish and run Bock’s Gun Shop, a business that was known throughout Minnesota for a place to get a fair deal on guns. The shop closed in 1990 after her husband was diagnosed with ALS. After Vernon’s passing she kept busy with traveling in her RV and taking bus trips with her friends. She also volunteered as a Grandparent at Whittier School for several years and was lovingly called Grandma by many of the students. She enjoyed quilting and was known at the VFW and Senior Center for her card playing abilities. Her favorite activity was being a Grandma; she tried to attend as many of their activities as possible.
