Biography

Richard was born in 1567 at Wetwang, Driffield, East Riding, Yorkshire, England[1]

He was the son of Michael Hardy b 1530 and Alice Shelton (Allison Skelton), daughter of Matthew Skelton. He was called Richard Hardy of Hounslow Beacon. The correct spelling of Hunslow is Hounslow. Richard was seated in Hounslow, Greater London. Hounslow is a borough of Greater London.

Family

Richard married Alice Wilson, the daughter of Robert Wilson (d 1622) in 1602 at Yorkshire, England. [citation needed]

  1. Alice Elizabeth Hardy [citation needed]
  2. George Hardy
  3. Mary Hardy [citation needed]
  4. John Hardy
  5. Jacquette Hardy [citation needed]

Marriage Note

There is a marriage registered for Richard Hardy & Isabell Wilson.
Citation: West Yorkshire Archives Service
Ref: D5/1
January 30, 1599
St. Peters Church. Birstall, Yorkshire.
The church is 54 miles from Wetwang.

Isabell married Richard Hardy on 30 January 1599 in Birstall, St Peter, Yorkshire, England.[2] Browning-5288 18:44, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Research Note

None of the pedigrees that John S. Wurts, (Magna Charta, Brookfield Publishing Company), references come with any annotations, footnotes, or endnotes. Richard's children, except John and his brother George, are from John S. Wurts pedigree in Wurts Vol VII pp.2133-37 which contains many errors and confusion and uncertainties. Their profiles (Alice, Mary, Jacquette, Michael) have no sources.

Place of residence - Richard is said to be of Hunslow Beacon, Yorkshire, (com. Eborum) in the family pedigree in Dugdale's Visitations. This is an alternate spelling of Hunsley Beacon in the parish of Rowley, East Riding of Yorkshire, about 20 miles from Wetwang where he was born. The main landowner and lord of the manor was John Northend.[3] The spelling Hunslow is occasionally used in the Rowley register e.g. burial of Susannah wife of Richard Hardy of Hunslow 18 October 1669[4] The following year there is the burial of Richard Hardy of Hunsley, aged 83 years, on 17 November 1670, so born about 1587.[5] Possibly this Richard?

Hardy-7628 and Hardy-336 appear to represent the same person because: Comparing both profiles they appear to be the same person. Their separate existence is corrupting the links to descendants

Robert Hardy-7628 was born and died in Wetwang, Yorkshire, England (Yes, that's a real place. https://theculturetrip.com/europe/united-kingdom/england/articles/a-cheeky-look-at-britains-top-10-rudest-places/ ) but the man shown as his son, Anthony Charles Hardy-1380 was born and died in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Seems unlikely. Anthony's profile includes other caveats about his existence or connections.

Hardy-375 and Hardy-336 do not represent the same person because: too different

Hardy-375 and Hardy-336 appear to represent the same person because: Many children of Richard Hardy, husband of Alice Wilson, have been attached to John Hardy amd Mary Stanley by mistake. They originated from the pedigree in Wurts Vol VII pp.2133-37 which contains many errors and confusion and uncertainties. Wurts attaches them as children of Richard: Richard 15 yrs; Thomas; 13 yrs; Alice; 11; George 9; John 6; Mary 7 Jacquette 4; Michael 1 yr. (ages in 1619) I propose to merge these with Richard Hardy and Alice Wilson's children.

The visitation image attached to this profile offers no evidence to support that THIS Richard Hardy is the son of Michael of the visitation.

The Visitation in the post below is Dugdales. It does not show John Hardy and Margaret Newlove as parents. Richard is shown as son of Michael Hardy and Alice Shelton.

This evidently skips the generation that included the parents of this Richard Hardy 1677 - 1647 as the son of John Hardy and Margaret Newlove as shown in the 1665

Visitation of Yorkshire, as recorded by the heralds of the College of Arms in London.

Hardy-402 Unmerged Match. These profiles have parents in common, but the dates and places are not matching. If these do represent the same, person it would be nice to see them merged.

Alternatively, if they represent different people, it would be nice to attach the correct parents to each. Anyone like to take on a challenge? Thanks!
