Elam was born in 1870 at Barrow upon Humber, Lincolnshire, the son of George Hare and Mary Wilkinson. [1]
In the 1871 census Elam was living with his parents and siblings at Humber Bank, Barrow on Humber. He was aged just 5 months. [2]
In 1881 the family was living at Finkle Lane, Barton on Humber, Lincolnshire. Elam, aged 11 years, was attending school. [3]
In 1891 the family had moved north and Elam was living with his widowed mother at Kexby, Yorkshire. Aged 20, Elam was working as a brickmaker. [4]
Elam Hare married Elizabeth Raper on 1 August 1892 at St. Paul's Church, Kexby. Their marriage certificate recorded Elam was a bachelor aged 22 and a tile maker. His father was named as George Hare, a foreman of a brickyard. Elizabeth was a spinster aged 26. Her father was named as Georger Raper, a labourer. At the time of their marriage both parties were residing in Kexby. Their witnesses were George Raper and Cecilia Raper. [5]
This couple had one son named Stanley Gordon Vincent Hare born 1895 at Kexby.
Elam Hare died in 1895 aged 24 years, several months before his son was born. [6]
He was buried on 6 January 1895 at Kexby. [7]
In 1901 Elizabeth, aged 34, and Stanley, aged 5, were living with Elizabeth's parents at their home in Kexby. [8]
In 1911 Elizabeth was still living with her parents George and Betsy Raper at Kexby. She was then aged 44 years. [9]
Son Stanley, aged 15, was living with John Daniel, a farmer, and family at their farm in Kexby. He was working as a wagoner on the farm. [10]
Elizabeth Hare remarried to Thomas Illingworth on 3 December 1921 at St Paul's Church, Kexby. Their marriage certificate recorded Thomas was a widower aged 56 and a bricklayer. His father was named as Simpson Illingworth (deceased), a brick layer. Elizabeth was a widow aged 55. Her father was named as George Raper (deceased), a labourer. At the time of their marriage Thomas was living in York and Elizabeth at Kexby. Their witnesses were Stanley Gordon Vincent Hare and Elsie May Etherington. [11]
Elizabeth Illingworth died in 1931 aged 64 years. [12]
