George William was born in 1904 at Hundleby, Lincolnshire, the son of Percy Hare and Louise Ann Jackson. [1]
In the 1911 census George was living with his parents at The Brickyard, Hundleby. He was aged 6 years. [2]
When George's father died in 1922 the family was living at Kettlestring Farm, West Huntington.
From The Yorkshire Post dated 7 April 1931, Pg 10 -
Peter Lawson, of Clementhorpe, York, wheeling a bicycle along the Malton Road, about one and a half miles from York, last night, was knocked down by a motor car driven by George William Hare, of Kettlestring Farm, West Huntington. Lawson was rather seriously injured and was removed to York County Hospital. [3]
George W Hare married Hilda West in 1931. [4]
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time George and Hilda were living were living with Hilda's parents George and Mary West at 2 White Cross Road, York, Yorkshire. George, born 6 November 1904, was aged 34. He was a retail dairyman. Hilda, born 27 March 1906, was aged 33. She was a director's secretary at a chocolate and confectionery warehouse. [5]
This couple had one son born during the war years.
George William Hare was named as one of the executors of his sister Mary Louise Howe's will. Her will written on 23 May 1986 recorded George was then living at 285 Huntington Rd, York. He was still residing at this address when Mary died on 9 February 1997. [6]
Hilda Hare died in 1996 aged 90 years. [7]
