Gene and MaryLou lived in the Steward area all of their married lives. Gene worked at a variety of jobs-he worked trucking for Del Monte in Rochelle, owned and operated a corn shelling business for local farmers and in 1962 purchased the Jim and Odessa Andes farm 3 miles west of Steward. Later he also worked for Macklin brothers at nearby quarries to supplement their income.
