Mary Ann Hargrave, a child of Benjamin Hargrave and Rebecca Gwaltney, was born about 1770, probably in the Natchez settlement of present-day Mississippi.
On January 6, 1793, Mary Ann married Jacob Ryan in Spanish colonial St. Martinville, in present-day St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, [1]

Research Notes
From Find A Grave:
I don't have anything that gives her birth date as the one shown above, I have found most records giving her birth as 1776. ??? Most list her birthplace as Mississippi and a few say it is Louisiana, we have no records that tells us for sure where she was born. Also on her death place, some say Vincent Settlement, some say Bayou d'Inde, all we know for sure is she died in Calcasieu parish....

Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
According to Thelma Abshier Cessna in Footprints of the Abshier Family in America, pt. 1, pp. 2 & 3, Mary Ann Hargrave Ryan had a brother named Benjamin (or Benoit on WT) Hargrave who married Catherine Gwaltney, daughter of Rebecca Gwaltney's brother Michael. She says "Rebecca Gwaltney's brother, Michael Gwaltney, and wife, Marie____, probably came to Louisiana with the Hargraves. Their two daughters married early in the 1780's in Poste de Attakapas." (Just FYI, Rebecca and Michael also had a sister named Margaret (Peggy) Gwaltney, who married Joseph Weed.) On p.13 she cites a marriage record (24 Oct 1785) in which Catherine's name is spelled "GALMONA (GALMAN)."
So if I have it straight, and assuming Catherine Galman was indeed Catherine Gwaltney, Catherine was Rebecca's niece, and Mary Ann (and Benjamin)'s cousin.
They both occur in my family tree in roughly the same generation.
