When John Lindsey Hargrove was born on January 24, 1826, in Madison, Alabama, his father, Valentine, was 48 and his mother, Ruth, was 46. He married Caroline Garrard and they had 10 children together between 1853 and 1873. He then married Cora M. West and they had two children together between 1877 and 1882. He died on May 21, 1902, in Colorado City, Texas, having lived a long life of 76 years, and was buried in Mitchell, Texas.
