Daniel was born on November 15, 1829 in North Carolina to Levi and Julin Ann Lipe Harkey. His father passed away in February of 1850 and he is listed in the home of his widowed mother on the 1850 Census in Yell County, Arkansas[1] with eleven of his siblings also listed in the residence. In January of 1851 (marriage record needed) he married Margaret Elizabeth Smith (born in Virginia; the daughter of Anderson and Louisa Lavicy Gillespie). He is listed with Margaret and seven of their thirteen known children on the 1860 Census in San Saba County, Texas.[2] He passed away in April of 1869 in San Saba County, Texas.
