Lottie always made peanut brittle for Christmas. It tasted so good but was so sticky it would stick in your teeth :).

Lottie loved to cook, especially bake. She worked for Kresges Five and Dime in downtown South Bend, Indiana as a baker.

Lottie also made wedding cakes for friends and family. She taught her granddaughter, Janet Kay Coder Pejza, the trade and they made many together.

Lottie Fay was pregnant as a teenager and was sent to a home for pregnant teenagers in Terre Haute Indiana. That is where Barbara was born. Elmer adopted Barbara after his marriage to Lottie a few years later.

On his deathbed Elmer told Barbara that Lottie's stepfather, William Riddle, was her biological father.

I interviewed Elmer and Lottie Schlundt on April 11, 1993. These are memories that Lottie shared.

Her father died when she was about 2 years old and her mother married William Riddle when she was about 5. She was sent to live with Willis and Blanche Getts. Blanche went to work and Lottie was sent to live with her sister, (Stella) Marie. Marie had Doris and, when Marie had Robert and Phyllis, Laura Riddle put an ad in the paper for Lottie to do housework. Lottie was sent to live with George and Nancy Washburn in Plymouth Indiana. She liked it there but Nancy died when Lottie was in the 6th grade. Laura didn't feel it proper for Lottie to stay with a man so she went back to live with Marie. Then she was sent to live with Fred and Ida Strausser in Michigan where her brother Wilbur 'Webb' was. Ida and Fred had 5 or 6 foster kids most of the time.

Harkin-124 and Harkin-123 appear to represent the same person because: I have removed Harkin-123 as Mother of Schundt-7, these should now be ready to merge.
