Biography

Neal (Harkin) Harkins migrated from Ireland to United States.
Flag of United States

Neil was born in County Donegal, Ireland in 1850. He was baptized on June 29, 1850. His godparents were Nahor McDaid and Lily McDaid[1]. He came to Philadelphia before 1872. He lived in Germantown. He married Catherine Cullen. Witnesses to the wedding were Part Boylan and Hanah McCain. [2]They had two children. In 1875, his brother moved in with him.

Neil appears to have named his oldest son after William McDevitt. Catherine Horgan Cullen Harkin died in childbirth and Neil married Catherine Cavanaugh. They had two sons. Catherine Cavanagh died in childbirth.

Between 1877 and 1879, the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland.[3]

Before 7 Jun 1884, Neil and Catherine (Cavanagh) moved to 1538 Salmon St in Philadelphia. [4]

It looks like Margaret McDevitt sold Neil her property on Center St in 1884[5]

After Catherine died, Neal married Delia Picket. George G?(possibly Goonan) and Margaret O'Neill were witnesses at the wedding. They had one son.

Neal died in the 1920's.

Notes

Find out who Mary Harkins is.

In 1880, Michael Dougherty, 30 yo and born in Ireland was living with this family in Baltimore. While in 1880, Wm. Dougherty, 17yo born in New York was living with probable Uncle William McDevitt.
