Biography

Ida Harkins was born in Translyvania County, North Carolina.[1]

Ida M Harkins was enumerated at Knoxville Post Office, Knox County, Tennessee for the August 13, United States Census, 1870. She was noted as born 1867-1868 in Tennessee as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are male Isaac Harkins, female Margaret Harkins and male William W Harkins.[2]

Ida M Young was enumerated as wife of the head of household in Hogback Township, Transylvania County, North Carolina for the June 19, United States Census, 1900. She was noted as born May 1867 in North Carolina and had been married for fourteen years. She was the mother of ten children of which four were still living. Also included in the household are head James A Young, daughter Mattie L Young, daughter Susie L B Young, son William C Young and daughter Annie D Young as seen in an image of the original census.[3]

Ida M Young was enumerated as wife of the head of household at Sapphire and Fairfield Road, Hogback, Transylvania, North Carolina for the April 16, United States Census, 1910. She was noted as born 1868 in Tennessee and had been married for twenty-three years. She was the mother of fourteen children of which seven were still living as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head James A Young, daughter Susie L B Young, son William C Young, daughter Annie D Young, son Isaac G Young, daughter Ida L Young and daughter Vertie L Young.[4]

Ida Young was enumerated as head of the household at Island Ford Road, Brevard, Transylvania County, North Carolina for the January 29, United States Census, 1920. She was noted as born 1868 in North Carolina and widowed. She was a renter as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are son Cris Young, daughter Dorothy Young, son Giffen Young, daughter Lillian Young, daughter Vesta L Young and daughter Marjory Young.[5]

Ida Young was enumerated as head of the household at Turnpike Road, Brevard, Transylvania County, North Carolina for the April 11, United States Census, 1930. She was noted as born 1868 in North Carolina and widowed. She was first married at the age of nineteen. She was an owner of a home worth $1200 and a weaver (rug factory) as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are daughter Mattie Young and daughter Bertha Young.[6]

Ide Young died October 7, 1932 in Franklin, Macon County, North Carolina. She was married. Her husband was listed as James Arthur Young. The information on her death certificate is incorrect concerning her parents, there is a mention of the Haskins name but is applied to her mother instead of her father.[7]

Ida Harkins was listed as the mother of Annie Dorothy Young Miller who died August 9, 1935. The father was listed as Arthur Young.[1]

Ida Young was listed as the mother of Marjorie Helen Young who wed Roscoe Lee Coffey May 6, 1937 in Iredell County, North Carolina. The father was listed as J A Young. The groom's father was listed as Virgil Coffey and his mother Nora Coffey.[8]

Ida M. Harkins was listed as the mother of Vesta Young Funderburk who died April 11, 1982 in Aberdeen, Moore County, North Carolina. The father was listed as James A. Young.[9]

As listed in the Find A Grave Index,[10] Ida Mae Belle Harkins Young is buried at Catheys Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Rosman, Transylvania County, North Carolina.[11]
