Ruth Harlan was born on May 15, 1847 in Flint District, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, United States. Her parents were Ellis Harlan, a Cherokee, and Nancy Barnett. She is listed with her parents on the 1851 Drennan Roll. [1] Ruth first married William Writtenberry, [2] in 1862. She married Joseph Hunt in November, 1870. They were the parents of six children, Frances , Charles , Janie , [3]Nathaniel, Joe, Nancy (died young) and Lucile. [4][5]
Ruth was enrolled with Joseph and her children by the Dawes Commission in 1902, [6] and was approved for a share of the Eastern Cherokee (Guion Miller) payment in 1907. [7]
Ruth died on April 02, 1913 in Vinita, Oklahoma, and is buried at the Fairview Cemetery, Craig County, Oklahoma. [8]
