Biography
In 1861 Margaret was the Gatekeeper at the Beccles Road Railway Gatehouse. The family lived here after the death of Mary. Aged 24 in 1867 she married George Smith. The Smiths moved to 6 Spurgeon Score in Lowestoft, Suffolk where they raised a family. Mary Ann Agnes (1868-1950), Minnie Ellen (1870-1878), George Edward (1872-1912) and Gilbert Christopher (1876-1964). George Smith died in 1877 and so Margaret was a widow. In 1881 her occupation was as a Beaster. Ten years later she was listed as a Dressmaker. By 1901 Margaret was living with her daughter Mary and her husband James Armes. The 1911 Census shows Margaret listed as a Nurse Midwifery living with the Armes family in Great Yarmouth.
