Biography

Marion Gilbert "Gib" Harmon's father Stephen moved from Alabama to Mississippi where Gilbert was born in Pontotoc. Gilbert married Georgia Jaco. At some point that marriage ended and he moved back to Alabama where most of his father's family still resided. In Alabama, he married Margaret McDougal.

At one point in his life, Gilbert was a deputy. According to David Harmon (a fellow researcher), "Gib" (Gilbert) was shot in the back after breaking up a party in Bibb County. He was taken to Kentucky where doctors decided the bullet was too close to his spine so they left the bullet in him. He recovered and lived with the bullet.
