Biography

Nathaniel Harmon was born on Jul. 30, 1695 to Joseph Harmon and Hannah Filley.

He first married Sarah Smith on Jan. 15, 1719 in Suffield, Connecticut.[1] They had one son, Phinehas, b. Jun. 4, 1720.[2] Sarah died soon after giving birth.

Nathaniel then married Hannah Miller, on Aug. 24, 1727 in Suffield, Connecticut.[3] They became the parents of Ezekiel, Hannah, James, Sarah and Lydia. Hannah died soon after the birth of Lydia.

Nathaniel then married 3rd Abigail Jacques Allen on Jan. 2, 1744/45 in Suffield, Connecticut.[4] She died in Oct. 1746.

Nathaniel died on Feb .10, 1774 in Suffield, Connecticut. He is buried at the Old Center Cemetery in Suffield, Connecticut.[5]


Will of Nathaniel Harmon[6] In the name of God Amen. I, Nathaniel Harmon of Sufield in the County of Hartford and Colony of Connecticut in New England, being advanced in years, and calling to mind my mortality and beleveing that it is apoynted for all men once to dye-do make this my last will and testament therefore I do in the first place after my decease give and bequeathe my soul to God that gave it and my body to ye earth to be decently buried at the descretion of my executors and as to what of worldly things and estate God in his good providance has bin pleased to bless me with all - I do hereby dispose of in maner and form as followeth, that is to say after my funeral charges are paid then the whole of my reale and personall estate that I shall be in ye proper posesion o untill or at my decease I do by this my last will and testiment give and dispose of to my two sons and my two daughters, acording to a rule, or the just rule of equity acording to the best of my skill and affections, as being well aand truly _____ of the relative parenteal duty that parentes _____ children ______ proceding in such manner and, as in such form, as not forgeting ______ sum of my said children have received allredy as, or towards thire portion that might properly and reasionly belong to one or more of them, out of or in my personal and real estate as thay being hirers thereunto as in the generall, but to petickcularize, mentioning my first born son Phinehas Harmon in first place I give to my said eldest or first born son Phinehus Harmon the sum of ten shillings mony our of my said estate besides on hundred pounds lawfull mony as his portion in full to or of my said estate acording to consent and agreement and acceptance by himselfe as in full of his proper portion of my said estate and consented to, as well as alowed by sum of or ye rest of my heirs as his full portion of my said estate said one hundred pounds as his portion and to his acceptance being paid to him as portion, in or about the yeare one thousand seven hundred and sixty and three. Item I give to my son James Harmon all my real estate as my land or lands that I shall be in possession of untill or at my decease with such provisions or conditions heareafter mentioned as paying just debts and proper legeses. Item I give my two daughters that is to say Hannah and Sarah Harmon to have after my decease all ye small mater of houshold goods and things that did belong to thire honoured mother with and togeather with me untill her decease and now what remains thereof being in my possestion thay after my decease to have all of them freely to be equally devided between my said two daughters to wit Hannah and Sarah Harmon, according to ye nature and quality of them as to be reconed to thire portion. Finily, I give to my said son James Harmon all the remainder of my personal estate that I shall or may have at my decease except what is suficient to pay to my said two daughters to wit Hannah and Sarah Harmon thire respective portions as being forty pounds to each of them and no more as afore mentioned provided nevertheless and allways if my said son James Harmon finds that there is not a suficiantcy of my personall estate to pay to my said two daughters to with Hannah and Sarah Harmon thire repective portions of my said estate then to make up to them in or of my reale estate a sufitiancy to make up or to pay to each of them thire respective portions of or in my said estate and I do hereby charge and apoynt my son James Harmon of said Sufield to be my soul executor of or to this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28 day of March Annoque Domini 1772 and do hereby publish pronounce and decleare this to by my last will and testament.
