DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
I am proposing a change to Mary Harrell's profile - which is to change her parents from Simon and Silvia to Hardy Harrell and Susanna Keener. My reasons are the following:
1) Several years ago I received an message from a lady researching the Harrell line asserting that Simon and Silvia's daughter Mary was not the same person who had married my 2nd great-grandfather Loderick Matthews. To my embarrassment, I was very busy with work at that time and failed to act. As a result many of the family lines on Ancestry that include Loderick and Mary Matthews now also have her connected to Simon.
2) As Ancestry has expanded its support for tracking and matching DNA results I've been exploring these results and in particular the descendants of Hardy and Susanna Harrell. This has led to some interesting results:
Looking at the DNA Matches from my Ancestry tree for children or descendants of Hardy Harrell and Susanna Keener I find the following for their children:
1) William - 5 DNA matches - 1794-1835
2) Sarah - 12 DNA matches - 1795-1845
3) Rachel - 18 DNA matches - 1797-1971
4) Mary - 34 DNA matches - 1798-1874 - (my 2nd great-grandmother)
5) Elizabeth - 7 DNA matches - 1800-1844
6) Nancy - 60 DNA matches - 1803-1901
7) John - 9 DNA matches - 1805-1880
8) Susan - 22 DNA Matches - 1807-1891
9) Rebecca - 4 DNA matches - 1809-1886
10) Green B - 13 DNA matches - 1816-1888
11) Malinda - 8 DNA matches - 1820-1872
3) I believe that these matches further support my proposal that the parents of Mary Harrell be changed.
4) I also noticed that in Susanna's profile that the editor indicates that there is a possibility that Mary Harrell is Mary Matthews by showing a Find A Grave link to one of her grave markers (she has two) and that photo was taken by me almost 20 years ago.
5) In addition, Susanna's profile has a reference to the family Bible that belonged to a sister of Mary - ref: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/walker/bibles/bb32mosespar.txt
