Essie was the twin sister of Uncle JB. She died young, as I gathered from the conversations, around 4 or 5 years old. She developed a high fever and little could be done in that era to help her.

On the evening she died, her mother was comforting her by rocking in a rocking chair and holding her. Essie screamed and said that she could not see. Apparently, the fever had burned through her optic nerve adding greatly to her anxiety. To the best of my memory, Essie died a few hours later.
