U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Burgess Harrelson was a Virginia colonist.

Burgess Harrelson was born in 1718 in Hanover County, Virginia Colony, the son of Peter Harellson and Mary Chambers . He was the brother of Burgess Harellson and Paul Harrelson. Burgess was the father of Drucilla Harrellson Byars. He died after 9 May 1772, the date his will was written, in Orange County, North Carolina Province. No date is given in the records of Orange County stating when the will was proved.

Burgess was named in the will of his father, Peter Harrelson, dated 20 January 1732. Also named were his mother Mary, brothers Paul, John and Nathaniel and sisters Elizabeth, Agnes and Sarah.[1][2]

Burgess married Elizabeth Gaines about 1740 in Virginia.[citation needed]

Burgess was living in Saint Pauls Parish, Hanover County, Virginia in September 1751. On 30 Sep 1751 it was "Orderd into one precinct for processioning the Lands of Thos Tinsley; Wm Alsup; Hardin Burnley, Burgess Harralson, ..."[3] He is again found in Saint Pauls Parish, Hanover County, on 17 November 1755.[4] He is last mentioned as living in the Parish on 30 November 1763.[5] The lands of "Burgess Harroldson remov'd" are included for processioning in Saint Pauls Parish on 30 September 1767. He must have still owned land in Hanover County after his move to North Carolina.[6]

Burgess was named executor of the will of his brother, John Harrelson, dated 9 August 1764 and entered for probate 21 March 1765 in Halifax County, Virginia.[7]

Burgess was living in Orange County, North Carolina by November 1764 when he was appointed a member of a jury to lay out a road and appointed overseer of that part of the road leading to the Granville line.[8]

Hi! The criteria Jillaine was referencing was PPP, and Paula agreed, so she removed it.

However, this profile could still need watching over by a project - and that project would be US Southern Colonies. Please fill out the project's Managed Profile Request form if you think that it needs to be a project-managed profile (see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Southern_Colonies_Managed_Profile_Requests for a link to the form).

Cheers, Liz

Hi Paula. Hope you and yours are well. I'm helping Liz S review PPP'ed profiles. It doesn't look like this one meets current criteria.

Also I see that the Southern Pioneers project account is still associated with this profile. Could you please a) remove the project account as co-PM, and b) use your Leader Powers to deselect PPP? Many thanks!
