Biography

William was born about 1753.

His attachment as son of an older William Harrelson and Jane Anderson is without source, so marked uncertain. We seek reliable evidence of the identification of his origins.

Harrelson was supposedly one of the Virginia longhunters involved with Skaggs and Blevins families.[citation needed]

He was in Prince Fredericks, Georgetown, South Carolina in 1790.[1]

That he married a Native American is a family legend without sufficient documentary evidence. Several versions of the myth may be found online, each claiming a different tribe, some with a much farther back generation.

Research Notes

Changed the birth date to fit in the family pattern. Actual birth date should be confirmed through a source; it is 1726, or 1746 or 1753 - the 1726 date may have been his father, his uncle? Not sure why a II would be a suffix unless he is named for a family member, usually a father but conceivably an uncle who died young?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Got any sources for these dates?

The dates are already added just commenting that there are 4 sons William, and 2 sons John who are probably incorrectly attached or need to be merged to clean up this profile

not my line - thank goodness..

I adopted this line because there is a DNA match with Harrelson-963 but not with Harrelson-51.

Harrelson-963 and Harrelson-51 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, geographic location, parent. Harrelson-963 had been entered with a birth date 1826, which would have been too early in his father's life

Harrelson-270 and Harrelson-51 appear to represent the same person because: Clearly meant to be the same man, same mother, same wife.
