Other Notes

This Robert?

Major Robert Harris died 1701 in battle with Indians near Richmond, in New Kent County.[2]

Possible Roberts & Williams

Williams
Roberts

one of the sons of Jamestown William Harris

If so, J. Phillip Harris has his sons as

  1. William Harris married Temperance Overton (Harris/Overton line of Hanover County)
  2. Robert Harris married Mourning Glen (Harris/Glen line of Hanover County)
With the note: "I will not examine, nor challenge the traditional Harris genealogy that names the two sons of Robert Harris as William and Robert and has them migrating up river to 'The Forks' area around what is now Doswell in Hanover County."[3]

Another passage from his article:

"Most of the property patented in the Ware Creek area at that time was being settled by people from the Jamestown area. This 389 acre parcel had first been patented by James Houlding in 1653. Houlding had been listed as a headright claim by Thomas Nowells in 1648. Nowells (Knowles) and his brother were property owners in Jamestown and were part of the deal with John Phipps on the Block House property. There was an old Indian road, Rickahock Path, which led straight out from the Middle Plantation area. Today, Route 60/30 roughly follows the old path and passes very close to the Robert Harris property, a distance of about 15 miles from the William Harris property at Jamestown. Of course, it is important to show that one of the neighboring property owners of Robert Harris was William Overton who was the father of Temperance Overton (Nugent II pg218)."[3]

He (J. Phillip Harris) also states that this Robert did not marry Mary Claiborne Rice. There is no mention of him being killed in a battle with Indians

Giles connection?

Harris-9108, Thomas William Harris, m Mary Giles, is not connected to parents, but his profile has him born in 1672 at The Forks, Hanover, Virginia Colony.

Merge

A profile that was imported as son of Thomas Harris & Adria Gurgany had dates/locations that matched closely with this Robert ([Harris-11108]). Adria Gurgany is a disproven existence profile - see Adriana Gurganey - and the Thomas that Robert had been attached to was not the Thomas Harris who married Adria (Thomas Harris m Adria Adria Hoare).

The merged-away profile (Harris-30735) said that Robert was born about 1615 in Essex, England and that he died about 1700 in Blissland Parish, James City, Virginia, British Colonial America.[4]

Harris-64059 and Harris-11108 are not ready to be merged because: There is significant controversy over who was the Robert Harris born about 1623 in Jamestown and died about 1701 in New Kent, Virginia colony. And had a son named William (or William Thomas) Harris.

The Southern Colonies Project needs to research these problems and decide if these 2 men were the same AND which woman was Major Robert Harris' wife.

wife anne Fulghum?? If so, she's said to have married the Robert who was son of Thomas d 1688 (according to this site)

The Anne Fulghum who m Robert Harris was a daughter of Fulghum connected with the Bens (see this site), and Thomas d 1672 is connected with the Bens, but he doesn't have a son named Robert.
