Lucinda was born around 1785 probably in Fauquier County, Virginia. She was seemingly a daughter of James and Susannah Harris.
Lucinda married Eleven Hitch in Fauquier County after 16 December 1802, when Eleven posted a marriage bond with James Harris as bondsman. Because "Lucy" was almost certainly under 21, but no separate written consent seemed to be provided by her father or another male relative, it is probable that bondsman James was her father and that his consent was then implicit.[1]
Most online trees indicate her father was "Benjamin Richard Harris," although no reliable source for this claim is known. Trees that include a profile of Benjamin usually indicate he was a man who lived his life first in Prince George's County, Maryland and later in Tennessee. There is no indication that he came to Fauquier County, where Lucinda married. She had a son named Benjamin, but also one named James, so naming patterns cannot help one case or the other. On the whole, the evidence points towards her father being James, who was in Fauquier County continuously from 1777 into the early 1800s, as shown through annual tax lists.
