William Harris was born at Newington Butts, London, UK on August 20, 1795. Due to crimes committed in Middlesex, UK, he was tried and convicted there and sentenced to life with transportation to Sydney, Australia, arriving on the ship " Sir William Bensley in 1817. Little is known of William's life in the new colony till he met Elizabeth Wright, daughter of Robert Wright and granddaughter of Joseph and Ellen Wright, 1st and 2nd Fleet convicts. They married at the Presbyterian Church, Portland Heads, NSW on June 26, 1837. by Rev. Cleland. William was 42 years and Elizabeth was 18 years. ref # 264 V162A. They had 6 children?, till Elizabeth died on December 11, 1859 at Camperdown, NSW ref # 1288. William died on February 15, 1883 at Nth. This would make his year of birth, 1797 and there is a birth registered on February 3, 1797 to John Harris and Ann, a son, William.
