Samuel Harris was born around 1735 in Pennsylvania, the son of James Harris and Mary McIllhenny.
Marriage
Samuel Harris married (1) Rebecca Morrison on August 8, 1758. She was born about 1737 in North Carolina, the daughter of William Morrison. She died before April 8, 1786. Samuel Harris married (2) Mary Dixon on 8 April 1786 in Statesville, Iredell, North Carolina. She was born abt 1748 in Statesville, and died 7 September 1833 in Statesville.

His will was proven on February 25, 1811 in Montgomery County, Kentucky. Their children were Zelphia Orpha, David Goodner, Dorcus, Milly, Phoda, Samuel (married a Hall), and Alexander John.
Margaret born January 20, 1762 Rowan County, North Carolina died in Mecklenburg, North Carolina. Married 1st William? Sloan. had a daughter Rebeckah Sloan.
Edward born May 5, 1763 Rowan County, North Carolina and died July 18, 1813. Married 1803 Sarah Kollack.
Andrew born October 26, 1764 Rowan County, North Carolina and died November 26, 1812. Married November 29, 1786 Edith (Ede) Perrin.
Mary born March 11, 1766 Rowan County, North Carolina. Married April 14, 1787 James McCollum.
Rebecca born September 20, 1767 Rowan County, North Carolina. Married August August 23, 1792 Andrew Province.
Martha born February 12, 1770 Rowan County, North Carolina. Married March 5, 1788 Robert Sloan.
Samuel born November 24, 1772 Rowan County, North Carolina and died April 5, 1846. Married 1st September 10, 1745 Sarah Province 2nd April 23, 1805 Jane Derier and 3rd Mrs. Lydia Silliman.

All of his children moved West except Edward, Mary and Lydia who remained in North Carolina. They all raised large families except Edward who died without issue.
Land
He obtained a Granville Grant for Land in the northwest section of Iredell County, along Morrison Creek.[1] He also obtained from Lord Granville additional State Land Grant in the years 1762, 1783, and 1786. The acreage of these grants were respectively 355, 400, 193 acres. They were located on the south fork of Fourth Creek, on the south fork of Fourth Creek, and on the waters of the south fork of Fourth Creek.[2]
Occupations
He was a Magistrate under the Colonial Government in the Revolutionary War, and still later under the state of North Carolina, after independence of the colonies was gained.
Religion
Samuel was a member of the First Bench of Elders and Clerk of the Session of Concord Presbyterian Church.
Revolutionary War Service
Samuel Harris was a significant leader of the Revolutionary cause in North Carolina, serving on the Committee of Safety.[3]
Will
His Will is dated March 23, 1796 and he divided 1,000 acres of land among his children.
Death
He died of typhoid fever on 5 October 1796, and was buried in the Concord church cemetery apparently in an unmarked grave.[4][5]
↑ According to the Genealogical Society of Iredell County, he was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and buried in an unmarked grave at the Old Morrison Cemetery.
