Biography
Sarah or "Sadie" H Harris was born in Feb 1853 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Sidney Wells Harris (1815–1876) and Mary Freeman (Bronson) Harris (1821–1867).[1] In 1870, she was working for the Hollenback family in Kankakee, Illinois.[2] Sadie Harris and Charles Calkins were married on 27 Feb 1873 in Grundy, Illinois.[3] They had a large family, including:[4][5]

Tracy Harris Calkins (1877–1955)
Laura Calkins (1879–Deceased)
Ilda S. (Calkins) White (1882–1924)

Grace Marion (Calkins) Bartlett (1886–1919)
Ethel J. Calkins (1889–1969)
Sadie was 57 in 1910. She said that she was Head of Household, but there is no record of her husband. Their daughters Grace and Ethel are living with her. Grace is teaching at a public school. They have a roomer to help make ends meet. They are living in Chicago, Illinois.[6] Grace married David Bartlett, but died in 1919. In 1920, Sadie and Ethel were living with David Bartlett in Chicago. Sadie still said that she was married.[7]
Sadie and Ethel, and Sadie's granddaughter Isabel, were all living together in Chicago in 1930. By that time, Ethel was a teacher in the public school system. She was 41 and unmarried. Isabel was a comptrometer (?) for a steam railroad company.[8] Sadie died on 4 Jun 1931 in Chicago[9] and was buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Worth, Illinois.[10]
