S Y Harris was born about 1832 in Greene County, Alabama. He married Sarah Ann Knighton about 1854 probably in Choctaw County, Alabama. They had 3 children born in Choctaw County, Alabama. He enlisted in the 40th Alabama Infantry in 1862 during the Civil War and served till the end of the war. He moved his family to Neshoba County, Mississippi between 1865 and 1870. Their 4th child was born in Mississippi. He passed away before 1900. His exact date of death and place of burial is unknown.
