History of Noble County, Ohio (published by Watkins & Co. 1887): One of the pioneers who came prior to 1812 was Elisha Harris, from Fauquier County, Virginia. He was a Revolutionary soldier and had served three tours in the army." "He and his sons were noted hunters and trappers. He wife died at the ago of over one hundred years. Among his children were Stephen, Morgan, George, and Elijah. All except Elijah settled in Enoch Township, where their descendants still remain. George was a successful and widely known hunter. Stephen moved to West Virginia, where he is still living at an advanced age. Elijah remained on the old homestead in Olive Township. He died in 1844. He married Elizabeth Powell, also a native of Virginia. She died in 1882. Their son, David A., now occupies the farm. He enlisted in 1862, in Company K, Thirtieth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged in December of the same year on account of wounds received at Antietam.

History of Noble County, OH pub Watkins & Co. 1887 Enoch Township, pages 562-563 The Harrises were among the early settlers in the west part of the township, where their descendants still live. Morgan, Stephen and George Harris were the sons of Elijah (sic) Harris, a pioneer of Olive Township. George Harris was considered a good hunter in his day. He lived on the farm now owned by his son, Sampson. Morgan lived on the farm now owned by Alfred Harris. Stephen Harris, still living in West Virginia, at the age of eighty-nine, settled on the August Dimerling farm. George Harris had a camp on Middle Creek prior to 1812. He left it and went into the war against Great Britain. A stream which ran past his camp is still known as George's Run.

Will of Elisha Harris: In the name of God Amen I Elisha Harris, of the state of Ohio, Morgan County and Township of Olive considering the uncertainty of the mortal life being of prefect mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows viz First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Harris the use of the farm during her natural life being the southeast quarter of section No twelve in Township six Range nine of the land directed to be sold at Zanesville with the use of the stock of cattle and farming utensils after all my just debts are paid with the following legacies I also give and bequeath to my two youngest sons Morgan Harris and Elijah Harris the farm above described after the death of my wife to be equally divided between them but no division to place till the youngest is of lawful age I also give and bequeath unto William Harris my eldest son one dollar John Harris one dollar Betsy star one dollar I give and bequeath all the rest of my personal property to my beloved wife when she see fit to be divided equally among the rest of my children viz George Harris Simon Harris Polly Powell Anna Powell Sally Mathena Hannah Powell Stephen Harris Morgan Harris & Elijah Harris I also give leave and request that the east half of the south east quarter of section No 1 Township six Range nine of the land directed to be sold at Zanesville to be sold as personal property and divided with the rest.

I also appoint Margaret Harris my beloved wife and Morgan Harris my son sole executrix and Executor of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me Made.

In witness whereof I have hereunto this the eighteenth day of May in the thousand eight hundred and twenty four his Elisha X Harris mark set my hand and seal year of our Lord one 1824. Signed Sealed and published and declared by the above named Elisha Harris to be his last Will and Testament in presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses in presence of the testator.
