Biography

Florence Mildred Harris was born in 1876.[1] She was the daughter of William Prole Harris and Elizabeth Rachel Scott Cockburn.

England and Wales Census, 1881: Living in Braunton, Devon, England with her parents and siblings. Aged 5.

When Florence was 5 the family emigrated from England to New Zealand, departing Gravesend on 3 December 1881 arriving on 10 March 1882 on the "Oxford". The voyage took 98 days with Captain Braddock in command.

The family settled on land in No.1 Road, Te Puke under the George Vesey Stewart scheme.

Florence married John Tanner on 22 August 1910. They had 2 children; Theodore and Jean.

Tragically her husband John passed away in 1918 as a result of a motor car accident.[2]
